Predictions - August 2010

There's really nothing to update. At this point we're all just waiting on the Toronto Film Festival to reveal what highly-touted award hopefuls have the goods.

The only big news of the month is the triumph of Inception (enjoying its third consecutive week atop the box office), which should make good on at least seven or eight of the ten nominations for which I currently have it predicted. The Last Airbender, on the other hand, has made a swift exodus from every category. Sadly, the stench lingers on.

I've only made a few additions in the craft categories:
Harry Potter and The King's Speech in Art Direction, Alice in Wonderland in Costume (even a movie that bad can't keep Colleen Atwood down), Biutiful and The Tempest in Score, Salt and The Way Back in Sound Mixing, Toy Story 3 in Sound Editing, and Harry Potter in Visual Effects.

It's likely that my next predix update in a month will also be scant, but once TIFF lands we should have a better idea of the playing field for some of those major categories.
