Predictions - June 2010

With Cannes behind us and the May popcorn pics out of the gate, it's time to make a few revisions to the sidebar predix. Of course, this early in the year and with few of my predicted titles having been seen yet, there won't be any drastic changes. The only ones of note are:

-Mike Leigh's Another Year was one of the few films to open to near unianimous praise at Cannes, while Robin Hood seemed to come and go just like that, missing the target by a wide margin. Therefore, I've nixed Ridley Scott's film from everything but Sound Mixing, and added Another Year to Best Picture, Director, Original Screenplay, and Actress (Lesley Manville).
-Sight unseen, I've traded Eat, Pray, Love with Rabbit Hole in Best Picture. Just because.
-Additions to the Acting categories include Javier Bardem for Biutiful (strong word from Cannes on his performance), and Ryan Gosling & Michelle Williams for Blue Valentine.
-Finally, the Academy's Board of Governors are currently in the process of deciding whether or not to expand the field of Visual Effects nominees from three to five (fingers crossed). Thinking wishfully, I've added a couple of extra contenders to my VFX predictions.
