Best Films of the Decade - #33: Into the Wild (2007)

With "Into the Wild", Sean Penn built a poetic odyssey about personal discovery, the quest for true freedom, and the lessons learned along the way. The story is brought to life by a cast of colourful characters, at the centre of which is Emile Hirsch, whose soulful performance is the glue that holds the film together. Special mention must be made to DP Eric Gauthier, whose lens captures the American wilderness in spectacular fashion, and to Eddie Veeder, whose music is its own unique character.
