IFMCA nominations!

From Awards Daily. The International Film Music Critics Association may not be a guild, but their nominations always give a decent indication as to the most well liked scores of the year. LOTS of love for Giacchino this year, racking up a record 9 nominations! I maintain that Up and Star Trek may not be his absolute best scores, but this is Giacchino's year. Hopefully the Avatar bulldozer won't rob him of his Oscar.

I do not like Up. There I said it, I could not help but be annoyed at how smug the scorer [is that a word?]and the animator seemed when they won the Globe. It's a pity Desplat's lovely work on The Fantastic Mr. Fox AND Cheri are going snubbed.

The folks at Pixar can be a bit boastful and self-congratulatory, but if any studio has earned the right to be so, it's them.

Whether you like the man or not, Giacchino's score is still one of the year's best in my opinion, and I'll be happy to see him win the Oscar he should have won for either The Incredible's or Ratatouille.
