Predictions - October 2009

The September festivals have come and gone, and yet, I don't see the field as being any more clarified. Toronto simply confirmed what most prognosticators were already guessing about Up in the Air and Precious, while the only films that got a notable boost were A Serious Man and A Single Man, and I remain skeptical about their Best Picture chances. A few tweaks to the sidebar:

-Lone Scherfig and Jason Reitman get the go-ahead for Directing nominations, ousting Jane Campion and Peter Jackson.

-Jeremy Renner and Hugh Dancy make way for Colin Firth and Matt Damon in Lead Actor. Stanley Tucci and Anna Kendrick make appearances in the Supporting categories.

-A Serious Man reenters the Original Screenplay race.

-Bright Star for Score, Amelia and The Road for Art Direction, and The Young Victoria for Costume Design.
