"One Category at a Time" - Best Supporting Actress

Now HERE is an interesting category. Much like last year, the field is pretty thin and there is no clear frontrunner now that Kate Winslet is in lead.

The logical choice seems to be Penelope Cruz for her spicy turn in Vicky Christina Barcelona (she'd be my choice) because she's young and beautiful and in a Woody Allen film, not to mention holds a slew of critics awards. Marisa Tomei isn't far behind in the precursor tally, but she has no SAG nod, plus she already has an Oscar, so she's out.

The two nominees from Doubt could cancel each other out, but it seems that more people will vote for Davis' one brilliant scene than for Adams' relatively plain performance. If they wan't to give Doubt something, it'll be for her. But then again, they may want Benjamin Button to win at least one major award, and the vote split between the Doubt actresses could allow Taraji P. Henson to sneak in.

Personally, the two performances from Doubt should have been replaced by Hiam Abass for The Visitor and Rosemary DeWitt for Rachel Getting Married. But Cruz is my next preference.

Will win: Penelope Cruz - Vicky Christina Barcelona
Should win: Penelope Cruz - Vicky Christina Barcelona

If I were in charge:
Rosemary DeWitt - Rachel Getting Married
