"One Category at a Time" - Best Actress

Much like in Best Actor, with an uncharacteristically strong field, it would have been impossible for the Academy to nominate a performance that didn't deserve attention. However, it was still possible for them to snub a performance that deserved it more, which is exactly what happened, TWICE! The two finest female performances of the year, Sally Hawkins in Happy-Go-Lucky and Kate Winslet in Revolutionary Road, were left off the slate for the likes of Meryl Streep and Kate Winslet (for the wrong movie).

Another snub which didn't surprise me too much was Cate Blanchett, who shoulda been nominated although I knew she wouldn't, for her remarkable turn in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. In leiu of her we have the welcome inclusion of Melissa Leo for her earnest work in Frozen River, Anne Hathaway, and Angelina Jolie. Again, it's not who's on the list that bothers me, but who's not.

Of the five, I actually feel Hathaway's is the best, but will not be disappointed to see Kate's inevitable victory on Oscar night. She deserves one this year (but for another film).

Will Win: Kate Winslet - The Reader
Should Win: Anne Hathaway - Rachel Getting Married

If I were in charge:
Kate Winslet - Revolutionary Road
