Oscar March

Thanks to AwardsDaily for the tip.

ABC is hoping that next year's Academy Award ceremony can be moved back to March of 2009 to avoid complications arising from the February 19 transition to digital television, giving owners of analogue television sets more time to set themselves up with the appropriate HD contraptions. This allow fewer people to miss the show and still keep the telecast within the sweeps month.

Personally, I don't think this is a bad idea. The Oscars used to be held later in the year, giving the studios a real chance to campain, and allowing the voters to see (and properly digest) all the nominees. Sure, a move to March isn't a very long wait, but it's a start.

What do you think?
